The Malcolm X Festival, organized by the Atlanta Chapter of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM), was a huge success. Aided by sunny skies and temperatures in the 80’s,the surrounding Atlanta West End community came by the thousands to spend theday in fellowship, listen to the beat of the drum, taste the foods of the Afrikan Diaspora, support Afrikan centered businesses and community initiatives and partake in discussion about which way forward for Afrikan people.
The Malcolm X Festival was started 20 years ago to celebrate brother Malcolm’s life and hisgoal of self-determination and self sufficiency for the Black nation. The festival allows both of these important ideas to flourish, with community members gathered together to enjoy the industriousness of the venders, reestablish ties of unity and communion. In addition to enjoying the day many people signed up to join the organization and participate in future events and activities.
